Summer 2022 Program Planning
Who:
Kindergarten through 5th grade students in need of reading tutoring; Academic Guides (AGs) are college students who serve as reading tutors and positive role models
What:
Mission Acceleration (MA) is a high-dosage, high-impact tutoring model using an evidence-based curriculum based on structured literacy and the science of teaching reading in a small group setting (1 AG to 3-4 students). MA is located in 8 communities across the state and is housed at the University of Mississippi's Center for Excellence in Literacy Instruction. With funding through GEER (Governor's Emergency Education Relief) funds under the CARES Act, programming is FREE to all children/families.
Where:
The Farmer’s Market Annex (Old Boy Scout Hut) on 2nd Avenue
When:
June 1 - July 27 (with July 4/5 off); Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday, Time TBA
Our goal: 30 HOURS of tutoring between June 1 - July 27 for each participant!
Why:
To lessen the impact of lost instructional time due to COVID-19 and accelerate students’ reading achievement and to decrease the likelihood of the “summer slide,” or the risk of losing anywhere from one to three months of reading skills during the summer months.
If you would like for your child to participate in MA this Summer, PLEASE complete the form below as soon as possible as space is limited - scan the QR code OR visit this Link to sign up. Email [email protected] with any questions.
